Squirrels Celebrate Success & Parkrun Milestone

With the grande finale of the cross country season taking place next weekend, and prizes still up for grabs, many Squirrels had a quieter weekend.  The main racing this weekend took place in Bedford with Eight Squirrels taking part in the ATW Bedford 5 and 10 mile races on Sunday.

Recent high winds took a well deserved rest and weather conditions were ideal for running. The fast 5 mile course is almost all flat, along the footpaths around the Bedford riverside area. Those taking part in the 10 mile enjoyed it twice!

Linda Aird reported back that “It's a pleasant course with good support from marshals - although shared with lots of walkers, dog walkers and cyclists on such a sunny day.”

In spite of dodging the four legged friends the squirrels brought home some impressive times, completing the 5 mile race were Andrew Wallis, first home for the club in 35:21, followed by Ellie Frid in 40:07, Brian Judkins in 57:11 and Jo Kenlin in 1:13:21. Rachel Arnott led the Squirrel 10 milers home in an excellent PB time of 1:08:33 (3rd F40-49.), next was Nicola Withington in a peronsal best for the distance of 1:28:17, Bev Rimmer in 1:35:51 and Linda Aird in 1:36:15.

Parkrun Results
Our friends at Letchworth Parkrun celebrated their 6th Birthday this Saturday which saw 114 runners flock to tackle the famously muddy course. Their efforts were rewarded with birthday cake, hot drinks and a fabulous party atmosphere.
