Meet our Coaches
Karen Dodsworth- Endurance Event Group CoachMy passion for coaching started whilst I studied for my physical education degree, although in the 80s I was coaching netball and trampolining! I joined NHRR in 1991 to improve my fitness for netball but soon found that I loved running more.
I am qualified as a UKA Event Group Coach (completing 22 modules online certainly required some endurance!) and UKA Strength and Conditioning Coach. I’ve always enjoyed working closely with individual athletes; I coached Pete to his 30.59 10km and 2.26 marathon, Paul Pearce, a lottery funded GB partially sighted athlete, to gain selection for the Athens Paralympics and Astrid with PBs of 35.54 10km and 2.59.50 marathon. Always looking to improve to provide the best possible coaching I love reading the latest research, attending coaching conferences and observing other coaches with their athletes. At NHRR I produce the training schedules for our three training groups and regularly coach blue group currently. If you have a question about your running or need some help to achieve your target don’t hesitate to ask! |
Coaches In Running Fitness (CIRF)
Richard Barker (Joint Head Coach) - Coach in running fitnessI am a relatively recent member of NHRR having joined in 2022 but have been running for most of my adult life.
I started to coach at the Club in early 2023 before qualifying as a Coach in Running Fitness in 2024. Personally my favourite runs are off road and if it involves a hill or better still a mountain then even better! I enjoy participating in a race, albeit my faster days are long behind me… recent race experience includes Marathon Eryri last autumn with a few other club members (26.2 miles is a side show… the 2500ft of ascent is the challenge!), recent other marathons include Chester and London and the Xterra Snowdonia Mountain Marathon which you may have guessed included over 5000ft of up! You will also find me taking part in race of any distance from 5k upwards and I am a regular Park Runner (who doesn’t love one of those!) My focus within the club (apart from head coaching with Dave Braybrook) is the ‘yellow group’. Seeing club members develop and achieve their goals is what motivates me. This group has such a wide variety of athletic abilities and ages. Sessions not just focus on ability but also individual performance development. It’s great to see those who regularly attend the Club to maintain fitness, but also those that join as a relatively novice runner to complete a marathon a year later. |
Pete Sibbett - Coach in running fitnessHaving discovered a love of running in the army I joined NHRR in its 2nd week and have been a member for 30 years. With PBs of 15.10 for 5km and 2.26 for marathon I understand the training demands of higher performance, whilst in more recent years a string of injuries has given me insight in to the frustrations of the comeback trail and the changes necessary for masters runners. I am qualified as a Coach in Running Fitness and like to help individuals achieve their targets whether that’s a sub 35 minute 10km or sub 60 minute 10km.

Leaders in Running Fitness (LIRF)
Dawn Power - Leader in running fitnessAfter running with NHRR for a good while I decided to pursue a coaching role and I'm currently a LIRF.
I've always enjoyed running and have become more interested in the technical side of running, such as biomechanics and training techniques so I thought I'd put my broadening interest to good use. My main aim is to make sessions enjoyable and for runners to have fun, while working towards any goal they may have. I enjoy running many distances and terrains but a half marathon trail run is my favourite. My latest goal is to try fell running and to improve my marathon time later in the year in Chester. The next step is CIRF! |
