In a glorious weekend for running, North Herts Road Runners held a record breaking First Saturday in the Month 5km on Norton Common in Letchworth. On the 5th anniversary of the race NHRR removed the entry charge for the race and 173 runners came to join in, smashing the previous record attendance of 93. Adrian Ryan was first home in 17:58 with Darren Matussa finishing as the first North Herts Road Runner in 2nd place in 18:27. Nick Malpelli finished in 4th in 19:09 and John Auld was close behind in 19:19 finishing in 5th. Helen Cairns was the first lady home in 22:30, with Jane Clarke in 23:50. Other NHRR finishers were Simon Poole 20:37, Oliver Garbas 20:47, Vincent Wright 21:56, James Walsh 22:01, Christian Allen 22:50, Sheena Scaplehorn 25:11, Michael Moralee 25:14, Martyn Annetts 25:21, Jo Harbon 25:29, Adam Wilson 25:51, Bob Davis 25:57, Mandy Waldock 27:02, Petra Grosse-Hull 27:03, Karen Dodsworth 27:32, Michelle Grudzinski 28:03, Jeni Spurr-Jones 29:01, Ashley Murray-Rochard 30:07, Dawn Power 30:47, Carina Quayle 30:51, Helen Giffin 31:18, Sheila Leavy 31:28, Rebecca Finch 31:38, Brian Judkins 32:44, Ruth Hicks 34:16, Helen Govey 35:24. A special mention should also go to Michael Laing who has now taken part in 50 races in this series! Elsewhere, David Annetts was also on record breaking form whist on his holidays in Devon. He took part in the Run Exe Summer 5k finishing in 6th place in 16:40 and setting a new MV50 club record. And Yuko Gordon was also on dazzling form in the Silverstone 10k, a race set on the famous F1 circuit. In a field of over 1000 runners, Yuko finished in 42:46, 1st FV65 and breaking the course record held by the FV65 world record holder. Both David and Yuko were in action again at the weekend with David winning the Bedford parkrun in 17:10 and Yuko also taking part in the Victoria Park 5 mile race in Hackney finishing as first FV60 in 35:57. Linda Aird was also on her travels taking part in the Hereford Half Marathon, on an undulating course in the Herefordshire countryside, Linda was pleased to finish in 1:55:54. Only 2 weeks after her great London Marathon, Helen Nuttall took part in the Hackney Half Marathon finishing in an excellent 1:31:01. Marathon experts Jo Summers and Sue Foot travelled to Essex for the Halstead Half Marathon. With competitors struggling the heat, Jo finished as 2nd Herts lady in 4:08 and Sue finished in 5:21.
