Weathering the Winter Weather!

The weekend saw squirrels braving the wet and windy weather across the UK this past weekend.  Starting in Milton Keynes, where 7 squirrels took on the Winter Half Marathon, a race notorious for its weather, with a flood in 2016 and frozen course in 2017.

This year, the 10th anniversary of the race, did not disappoint with a ankle high puddle at mile 12 which left feet wet and chilly heading into the final mile.  There were some very respectable results from NHRR.

Elsewhere Elwyn Howell took on the Exmouth Santa 5k for Age UK, together with wife Linda, completing the course in 37:53.  Set alongside the sea wall, which is currently under repair, runners braved he beach in high winds and rain, it was a terrific effort for a great cause. 

Over in Telford a couple of squirrels went to test the claim that it played host to the fastest 10k course in the UK.  It’s a race that hosts many elite runners with the male and female winners coming home in 28:36 and 32:23 respectively. 

​Tash Pitman, the only runner in tights in her wave as opposed to the race knickers of the elites, got home in 40:52 and 5th in her age category, her fastest 10k in 11 years so an excellent result.  Whilst Carina Quayle also raced, finishing an impressive 8th in her age category in 68 minutes. 

Finally we had many runners out at Parkrun both at home and abroad, with those of us back home envious of those in sunnier climes.  Well done everyone who race this weekend. ​
