North Herts Road Runners (NHRR) had plenty to cheer about at the London Marathon as months of hard work and training paid off for their members. First in for the club and setting a new CR for his age group (v45-49) was Nick Malpeli in an amazing 02:49:04. Darren Matussa finished in a fantastic 03:03:45. Helen Nuttall crossed the finish line in a brilliant time of 03:17:31. Barbara Sayers fought through injury to complete the marathon in 03:43:14. Alan Hazlehurst and Jim Marvell both set new PBs and finished in 04:14:32 and 04:51:18 respectively. The whole club are very proud of all their endeavours. Jim McConnell represented GB at the European Cross Duathlon Championships in Romania. The race consisted of a 9km off road run, 38km mountain bike ride and finished with a 3km run. McConnell fought valiantly on tough terrain to and won silver in his age category (v40-44). Jon and Verity Stow travelled to Stratford Upon Avon for the Shakespeare Marathon. Jon was delighted to finish under 4 hours in 03:57:19 whilst Verity opted to run a half marathon. A little closer to home Sue Foot and Jo Summers ran Valleys and Views, a 26 mile off road route near Corby. Amongst beautiful scenery Summers finished in 4hr 42 and Foot crossed the line in 5hr 32. Several North Herts Road Runners competed in Parkruns over the weekend. Bedford Parkrun saw David Annetts take first place in 00:17:10, 34th was James Lancaster 21:39, Martyn Annetts finished in 24:45 and Rachel Annetts set a new Parkrun PB of 25:01. John Cooper ran the St Albans Parkrun in 00:21:39 whilst Brian Bailey was further afield for the Dalby Forest Parkrun in Yorkshire a course he completed in 00:26:37. On Tuesday's training session club members were asked to test out new timing equipment on a 5K race. This was in preparation for using it on the next First Saturday of the Month (FSofM) 5K run on 7th May. With 15 runners coming in under 20 minutes and several PBs set the new technology was definitely put under pressure. First man to finish was Mark Vaughn in 00:16:57 and first lady was Katie Harbon in 00:18:15. All are welcome to join in the free FSotM on Norton Common.
