Saturday saw North Herts Road Runners celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in true Royal Style as a carnival atmosphere descended upon our much loved Norton Common. Ladies Captain Tash Pitman exclaimed “I’ve never seen such an array of Royal Pageantry, from Royal Squirrel to Queen Bee, Freddie Mercury to the Queen’s Guard and Boudicca to the Dancing Queen”. There were royal masks and union jacks a plenty with bunting and scones to greet all runners and spectators. The race was won by North Herts Road Runner’s own Stewart Overton dressed in red, white and blue, finishing in a time of 17:58. Katie Harbon was first lady (and second overall) in a time of 18:11 with her very own Corgi (Collie) Daisy accompanying her! The 5km was followed by a children’s Fun Run for all the Princesses and Princes with chocolate corgis for all finishers. Donations for the seasonal scone feast, cakes and hot drinks were collected for the club’s Charity of the year – the Stevenage and North Hertfordshire Child Contact Centres. Sunday 19th June sees the return of Run Round The Garden - Letchworth Garden City’s 5km race, go to http://www.nhrr.org.uk/run-round-the-garden.htmlto book your place in this fabulous closed road event.
