Assembly, Start and Finish
Entrants are requested to warm up within the farm area and assemble in the start area at least 10 minutes prior to the start to listen to final race instructions. The event will start at 9:00 prompt. The finish is also within the Standalone farm area.
Facilities
Toilets are available but since we are based at a working farm there are unfortunately no changing or showering facilities. A small baggage area will be provided.
Race Safety
You are responsible for your own safety on this course. Please cross any roads carefully and stay on footpaths wherever possible. There are race marshals positioned at critical safety points on the course (i.e. road crossings) but the marshals have no powers to stop traffic for you. Most of the course is traffic free but if you are running alongside a road, you must stay on the pavement. Failing to comply with these instructions will result in disqualification. For safety reasons, please refrain from wearing headphones of any type during the race.
Event Sustainability - Medals & T Shirts
We don't give out medals or t-shirts to finishers of the Greenway Challenge. This is to ensure that our impact on the environment is low as possible by not introducing new items into the world that aren't needed. Don't worry though, your Half Marathon is timed and results are posted online, our famous cakes will be available at the end of the race, alongside the feeling of having completed a half marathon! No goody at the end of the race also means we can donate more to our NHRR charity after the race.
We are also doing other things to ensure our race is as sustainable as possible, as a club we have invested in reusable cups to reduce our reliance on single use plastic, we are using reusable tape, or bunting where we can, the numbers provided by our timing partner are reusable, we have replaced our petrol-guzzling blow up arch by a gantry and we also encourage car sharing, walking or cycling to our event.
Entertainment and Refreshments
Standalone is a working farm and is open to the public on race day. Event entrants, friends and family can visit the farm café free of charge. However, if you wish to enter the farm itself then you must pay the entrance fee. The start and finish area are not within the area of the farm where an entrance fee is required. A farm shop is located on the premises where you can purchase refreshments, toys and gifts.
Greenway Challenge Course Description
The course is clockwise around the Letchworth Garden City Greenway. Please note that this is a self-guided event and marshals will not be present at all junctions and turnings. A route description and map is available on www.greenwaychallenge.org.uk. Please print a copy of the instructions and map if you need it.
Click here for a downloadable .GPX file of the route.
Water Stations
There will be 2 water stations at 5.8 and 10.5 miles. If the weather is warm, bring along your own water to take with you on the course.
