Speedy Squirrels’ Successes: From 10k Races to Parkruns

​This week may have been a bit quieter for the North Herts Road Runners, but our dedicated squirrels still managed to leave their mark at various events. From the scenic trails of the Welwyn 10K to numerous Parkruns across the country, our members continue to showcase their endurance and enthusiasm

Panhshanger Park Push: Welwyn 10k
Nathaniel Rosa gave an impressive performance at the Welwyn 10K, held at Panshanger Park on Sunday, June 30th. Finishing 21st out of 450 participants with a chip time of 41:16, Nathaniel tackled the challenging off-road course that featured two steep climbs and rough terrain. He noted the unique distraction of finding the flattest part of each path, a tactic shared by his fellow runners, which helped to alleviate the strain of the race. Nathaniel highly recommends this local event, organized excellently by Garden City Runners, and encourages all club members to add it to their race calendar.

Exeter Excellence: Another 10k Triumph
Elwyn Howell braved warm and humid conditions to complete the Exeter Riverside 10K on Friday evening. He finished in 46:30, securing 1st place in his age category and 55th overall out of 355 runners. Elwyn's resilience and determination on a tough evening by the estuary are, as always, highly commendable.

Bev's Buckinghamshire Quest
Parkrun enthusiast Bev Rimmer took on the Bury Field Parkrun in Buckinghamshire, a cross-country one-lapper with narrow paths flanked by long grass. Despite battling cramps, Bev completed the run in 30:28. She humorously recounted the challenge of overtaking and described the picturesque morning scenery. Bev also highlighted her ongoing quest to complete all Parkruns in the Beds and Bucks Parkrun Challenge, detailing the events in each area for those looking to do the same:
