Cooks light up ‘definitely different’ 10k A DJ, lights and a start in an underground car park were some of the unconventional elements encountered by Lindsay Cook and daughter Hannah at the new LDNX10k in Wembley. After emerging into daylight, the course wound around the Wembley area (‘not particularly memorable’, in Lindsay’s view), with a brief detour into another car park for some strobe lighting and a smoke machine. ‘It was a bit strange and definitely different but I enjoyed the event’ reported Lindsay. Given she recently completed ‘a stupidly long triathlon quite recently’, she was ‘fairly pleased to finish in 1:06:30’. Sheepy Shuffle proves ideal marathon training A quartet of North Herts Road Runners headed to Wallington to tackle the Sheepy Shuffle 2025 virtual half-marathon, and found it ideal training as they prepare for the classic 26.2-mile distance. Now in its fifth year, the ‘Sheepy’ raises funds for a very good cause – the Mirkwood Rest Home for Retired Sheep in Boston, Lincs. Richard Weber incorporated the Shuffle into his 20-mile marathon training run and Lucy O’Connor found the 13 miles fitted ‘perfectly’ with her own schedule at this point in her training. Anna Gibson and Laura Fairbanks also completed the Sheepy and Sheila Leavy race-walked the 5k option at a different location. Lucy said they were all looking forward to receiving their medals, ‘which are always fabulous.’ Z is for Zielony Jar Parkrun Congratulations to David Brewer, who completed the Parkrun alphabet at Zielony Jar near Krakow in a time of 24.42. David reported a hilly course in a suburban park and he got to see some of the local inhabitants - real-life Red Squirrels! Parkrun round-up

Stopsley Trail Run – Sunday 10th August Four squirrels braved the sun and slopes at the Stopsley Trail Run, with distances of 5 miles or 10 miles on offer. Daniele Socci, Lucy O’Connor and Sue Foot tackled the two-lap route with Lucy and Sue claiming 1st and second place in their respective age groups, while Brian Judkins opted for the one lap course in the 5 mile race. Lucy reported, 'little shade, energy-sapping hills, and a fast, flat final mile. Tough but well organised.' She recommends it to all saying 'well worth entering again, especially given its local convenience.' Squirrels on Tour – Parkrun Tourism Run of the Month A cheerful group of squirrels gathered for the August tourism run at Great Denham Parkrun. Cloud cover at home gave way to bright sunshine just as the briefing began – prompting some to wish they’d brought sunglasses. The course was fast and flat, though a headwind in the final kilometre added spice to the effort. 23 squirrels finished, with PBs for Mike Phillips (18:56), Tracy Pitcairn (20:26), and Sheila Leavy (38:37). Full Parkrun Roundup Kris Whitmore shared a good parkrun report he ran on 2/8 in the spirit of letting other members know of interesting holiday runs! The parkrun is called The Pastures and is held in the town of Alnwick in Northumberland. It's a long drive to get there but entirely on the A1 so no chance of getting lost, the parkrun is less than a kilometer from the centre of the town and in the shadow of a pretty awesome castle (apparently used in one of the Harry Potter films if you're into that sort of thing) one of the most spectacular parkruns I've done and in the winter that far North you'd be running just as the sun came up.
Bedford Aquadrome 10km Shaun Allin headed to Bedford Aquadrome 10km on Sunday where he raced to 2nd place in a new personal best time of 36 minutes and 26 seconds. Shaun said, ‘it was a very organised event and flat course, but was tough in the wind, especially as running solo for most of the race but happy to come away with a PB and my first time on a podium’. First Saturday of the Month 5k 24 Squirrels turned out to enjoy pleasant conditions for the regular ‘First Saturday of the Month 5km’ run covering 2 laps of Norton Common. Men’s team captain ran with his baby daughter for the first time, pushing her round in a running buggy which he described as ‘pretty brutal in places’! Mike Phillips was first male and Rhia Botha first female, and showed impressive strength running the home straight while giving her youngest daughter a shoulder ride! Thanks to all who supported marshalling, cheering, time keeping, or running!
Lava Run, Los Cristianos, Tenerife David Brewer took part in the Saturday Morning Lava Run in Los Cristianos, Tenerife while on holiday. He said ‘it’s at 9am every Saturday and ideal for those on their hols in the south of Tenerife who are missing their Saturday am Parkrun fix. Nice Flat seafront run and not surprising a tad warm. Slow 23.55 for the 5k (I blame the heat or possibly the San Miguel’s the evening before).’ He even made their Instagram Page! Parkrun roundup
