Jon Hunt was utterly brilliant at Run Round the Garden as the planning officer.  He was instrumental in producing what was a fantastic event for the club.  In particular going above and beyond to help one of the runners have a comfortable race.

Dawn Porter is our Squirrel of the month for May 2022.

Dawn has improved her FSOTM time from 31:45 (last September) to a brilliant 28:00 at our May FSOTM.  Dawn has worked really hard on her form and strength and pushed herself in training sessions and it has really paid off!

Sometimes unusual situations bring the best out in people - and NHRR is no different!

For March we had some lovely nominations, people organising virtual training meet ups, people offering help where they can, and people doing unusual thing to keep our community going - all worthy so keep these going as this is a marathon, not sprint.

But the SoTHM in March goes to the Social Committee (Helen, Caroline, Jo, Paul, Adam, Monica and Kat) !!!!

They had organised what would have been another amazing event, but when we made the decision to cancel the event, they really showed their commitment to the club. They immediately spoke with all relevant parties, made arrangements to 'reserve' services for future so that there was not financial loss for them or us, or negotiated refunds where possible.

Well done!

Congratulations Mike Bullock and Susan Mansfield - NHRR Squirrels of the Month for February 2020

Endurance athletes Mike and Sue are February's worthy winners of 'The Squirrel'.

Their passion for very very long off road runs dressed as super heroes would be enough to secure them this prize, but what makes them truly exceptional and as hard as nails is that there appears to be no conditions too tough for these two.

When Storm Ciara swept across the whole of the UK bringing heavy rain with widespread gusts of 70 - 80 mph, running events were cancelled across the country due to health and safety concerns.

Obviously endurance events are less concerned with the safety of their runners as Mike and Sue completed the Leicester Round Ultra trail race consisting of 58km of pure mud, big hills and ploughed fields. Their achievement was truly super human and gave the race reporter for that week something to write about on what would been a damp squib of a weekend,

Congratulations Mark Vaughan - NHRR Squirrel of the Month for January 2020

Kit secretary Mark lives and breathes kit, it’s a passion or perhaps some might say even an obsession.
 
As expected, he leads by example when it comes to being kitted out for race day. Another passion is cross country so the culmination of kit and cross country at the Herts County Cross Country Champs made for an ideal day out.
 
Mark turned up to race as expected exceptionally turned out in full North Herts Road Runner attire. Bobbly hat check, branded jacket check, race shoes check, even a fully branded North Herts Road Runner Marquee check. However, even this super-efficient and organised kit obsessive can get it wrong. Looking super nifty pre-race Mark reaches in to his kit bag (probably branded) to find he didn’t pack his vest but instead packed fellow kit secretary and wife Sue’s vest. Being the ultimate professional, he just donned his wife’s vest and raced.
 
You’ll need to ask Mark if this kit blip impacted his race performance on the day or if he found the ladies cut slightly liberating.

Congratulations Linda Aird - NHRR Squirrel of the Month for December 2019

We've saved the best to last as Linda Aird sees out the decade as Squirrel of the Month.

Linda has shown true squirrel spirit with her services to running whilst injured. Although unable to run in this season's cross country campaign Linda as been there supporting and taking numbers at the end of races.
She has provided so much encouragement to others and has selflessly  turned up to club nights to help.

Linda you are an absolute legend and a super baker too!

​Congratulations Pete Sibbett - NHRR Squirrel of the Month for November 2019​

Pete has been awarded this months winner because he showed  true squirrel character during the 3CXC at Wing.

Having set out to race hard and put himself in contention for an overall age category win, Pete stopped his race when a fellow club mate got into difficulties.
​
Pete stayed with him until Marshall’s were on the scene and the fellow runner was well supported. Despite having lost several places Pete continued on to finish his race.

Pete has been in the club (as a very fast runner I might add) and on the committee for many years, and has had many achievements and made some significant contributions to the club but despite several nominations for this prestigious award has never won it until now. This one it very well deserved.
