Congratulations to all of you who completed the 2003 Standalone Centenary 10 km road race. It was yet again another record breaking year with 749 entries - 79 up on last year’s record entry - of whom 671 finished the course. The fine weather, a regular feature of the Standalone race, attracted 230 on the day which is another record.
The Fun Run for children was again a success once more bringing the family into the day’s events. In this we were helped by special attractions to celebrate Letchworth’s centenary year: the Franklin Street jazz band, Colin the clown and a face painting stall.
The event owes its existence to the many sponsors who have supported us. They were:
Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation
Sainsbury’s
Tri Sports
The Comet newspaper
Paul Culpin - Sound Systems
bhairdressing.com The Salon, Letchworth
Spirella Fitness Centre
Standalone farm
AWR Marketing Services (who printed the entry forms)
As in previous years I have to thank St John Ambulance, Herts. Police and the Letchworth Army Cadets for their hard work in ensuring that you had a safe race and the members of North Herts Road Runners and their families who gave up Sunday morning to ensure that we had a successful race.
The race was covered by DIGIMOMENTS , a new internet-based sports photography agency. Please visit their website at www.digimoments.co.uk and type in your race number to see if they have captured any great photos of you from the race.
I hope that you and your families enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you again next year when, with your help, we will break yet more records. This will provisionally be Sunday 3rd October 2004.
