![]() As the mid week league comes to a close for 2024, North Herts Road Runners are certainly looking back on a successful season. On Thursday, 38 squirrels headed to Trent Park for the last race. It was a tad cooler, making it a good racing temperature but the undulating course through the forest made for a tough competition. Tom Barclay led the men in, positioning 16th overall, followed closely by Mike Roberts in 19th place. NHRR women were out in force, with Rhia Botha leading the team as 5th female overall, followed closely by Hannah Ridely in 8th and Rachel Arnott in 9th. It was close competition for the team events, however NHRR smashed it, with the women coming 2nd overall and NHRR men 4th. Overall for the season NHRR finished 3rd place, with women in 2nd and men in 4th. Comfortably on the podium, this means that NHRR will continue to compete in division 1 next year – an achievement NHRR should be very proud of. Full Trent Park results:

They really enjoyed it and raised £250. Ware 10 miles Bev Rimmer took part in two races over the weekend. On Saturday morning Bev headed up the road to Northamptonshire’s Irchester Country Parkrun, to tick off the letter ‘I’ on her Alphabeteer challenge. Bev described the course as an undulating lollipop, that sees runners complete an out-and-back on forest trails with a loop of 1km in the middle. Bev completed the ‘majestic woodland’ course in a time of 00:31:38. Then on Sunday, Bev also took part in the Ware 10 miles. A two-lap course with a couple of undulating points made for a tough race, with Bev describing the hills ‘like mountains’ by the second lap. And with a lack of fuel and sore legs, Bev still completed the course in a great time of 01:39:02. Acronyms 10k Elwyn Howell completed the Acronyms 10k in a time of 54:09 on a very hilly course with high elevation. Elwyn described it as a lovely event that took the runners over the Tamar bridge twice from Devon to Cornwall. Hitchin Triathlon Four North Herts Road Runners took part in a slightly different discipline this week, Hitchin Triathlon, which consists of a 400m swim in Hitchin Lido, a 20km ride around the countryside North of Hitchin and a 5km loop around 2 laps of the town centre. Soggy First Saturday of the Month Eighteen squirrels ran the July First Saturday of the Month. Despite the rain - it was a great morning in the common. The course wasn't too muddy except a few puddles on the top just past Mark and his lovely loud bell by Icknield Way.
Parkrun continued to be a very popular option for North Herts Road Runners on Saturday morning.
