![]() There was a strong NHRR turnout of 25 North Herts Road Runners at a gusty Baldock Beast half-marathon on Sunday. Many of the runners not satisfied with a challenging 13.1 mile course added extra miles to get the training in for their spring marathons. Tracy Pitcairn was first female squirrel home, setting a personal best time and scooping first female veteran 35 in a time of 1:36:39 despite having just returned from a week’s ski-ing. Rhia Botha was just behind in 1:42:07 to take 2nd place in the same category. Rachel Arnott made a strong return from injury to take 2nd in her veteran 45 category, with Dervla Downing 3rd, while Caroline Thrussel was second veteran 55 and Lucy O’Connor 3rd veteran 60. Lucy commented, ‘It wasn’t particularly windy when I left home but it was blowing a hooley by the time I got to Baldock. I thought it was too good to be true. The hardest mile was the last; I had to turn my head sideways in order breathe properly it was that windy.’ First male home for the club was Oli Babik in 1:30:29 who was 10th male. Richard Thackery was the only male squirrel to take a podium spot, bagging 3rdposition in the veteran 60 category.
